Postgraduate students from The Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) are preparing for their end of year show to be held on campus from Friday 31st August – Friday 7th September 2012.
The exhibition, entitled ‘Dust’, represents the culmination of a period of individually defined, research and practice from pathways in Fine Art, Costume, Photography, Graphic Design, Illustration, Contemporary Performance and Animation.
The individual practices reflect the interdisciplinary nature of postgraduate study at the AUB and represent for each graduating student, the culmination of a meaningful, transformative and personal journey.
MA Costume student Sarah Dicks’ practice involved the London 2012 Olympics at Weymouth. Sarah was the lead designer on an array of colourful and fantastical costumes that were made for the Battle for the Winds spectacular which marked the opening of the Olympic Sailing Events in Weymouth. She was awarded a Silver Medal for Best Creative Cultural Project at the Podium Awards which recognise the vital role universities have played in delivering the London 2012 Games.
MA Fine Art student Rebecca Strain’s practice “…investigates the creation of the document, the embodiment of paper, the mastication process and the idea of paper as a symbol for potential and a medium for further intervention. This concept of paper maker as one who forms a creative space has led me to develop a curatorial practice involving international collective production.”
MA Fine Art student Paul Hearn’s work examines the similarities between his own artistic practices of collage and bricolage, with those in the Western Occult Tradition. His work involves the re-combination of disparate elements in an alchemical manner, and the fascination of how both art and ‘magic’ ask one to imagine alternative worlds and embrace the unknown.
‘Dust’ will be open daily from 10am to 4.30pm (closed on Sunday) with a late night opening until 8pm on Thursday 6th September. The Private View is on Thursday 30th August from 6pm – 8pm and there is an Open Day during the show on Tuesday 4th September from 11am – 2pm. Visitors interested in the Open Day can book online on the AUB website. For more information on ‘Dust’, please visit www.aucb.ac.uk/summershows
