Students from the 3rd year of the Film Production course at The Arts University Bournemouth are celebrating following an extremely successful Kodak Student Commercial Awards where they won seven awards including the Overall Winners Category.
The Kodak Student Commercial Awards has been running since the 1980s. It is open to all students on film, media or television courses in the UK and Ireland. It invites them to produce a 30-45 second commercial following a live brief for the companies Kodak Easyshare, Dove and The Industry Trust. The finished commercial is then judged by a jury of industry creatives.
First place in the Overall Winners Category was awarded to ?Black and White?, a commercial for Dove Soap that was required to help build female self-esteem. Undertaken by students Angus MacDonald (Producer), Duncan Christie and Ben Perry (Directors), the commercial focuses on the beauty of individuality. Ali King, Director of Photography on the commercial was also awarded the Best Cinematography Award by Kodak.
Second place in the Overall Winners Category went to the Arts University?s commercial ?Friends? for the Kodak Easyshare brief which was undertaken by Ali Paterson (Producer), Julia Zahner and Zara Carnagie (Directors).?Friends? was also awarded the Best in Brief for Kodak. Other awards presented to University students were for ?Crime Scene? by Alex Kabban (Producer) which was produced for The Industry Trust to tackle illegal downloads. ?Crime Scene? won the 2nd Best in Brief and the Production Design Award.
Nick Beaumont, Senior Lecturer on Film Production commented ?Our Film Production students have been extremely successful in this Awards Ceremony. The Arts University has the unique benefit of collaborating with other creative disciplines on the same campus. This year, as in previous years, University films have benefited from the talents of students from Costume, Make-Up, Acting and 3D Animation.?
The Overall Winner Award for Best Film Commercial – Dove ?Black and White? – now goes forward for the Golden Drum International Advertising Festival held in Slovenia on 5th-8th October 2011.
