English Language
We offer a range of English Language support for international students, both in preparation for and during your time at AUB. If you're unsure whether you need an English Language test to study with us or would like to know what of test you need to take, check out our English Language requirements.
If you’re applying to study with us but don’t think you will meet your chosen course’s minimum English Language requirements, you might qualify for one of our Pre-sessional English courses.
Current AUB students can enjoy a range of English language help, free of charge. Our team of English for Academic Purposes tutors offer one to one sessions, group tutorials and workshops throughout the year.
Pre-sessional English courses
Build the skills for success at university.
Our Pre-sessional English courses help you to build the English Language and academic skill sets required for university level study.
With undergraduate and postgraduate course options, you can improve your understanding of English and prepare the skills for success at university.
AUB is pleased to announce the pre-sessional offering for students joining the university in Autumn 2024 for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. AUB has partnered with Oxford International Digital Institute, and courses will be delivered by OIDI.

English Support for Current Students
Studying at university is an exciting challenge. To help you succeed in your academic studies, AUB has a team of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) tutors who can help you develop your academic language and skills if you use English as an additional language.
Our EAP support is available to all AUB students who have English as an additional language. We can help you improve your language and skills for academic study through the following:
You can book tutorials with an EAP lecturer for help with things such as:
- Understanding assignment briefs and tasks
- Writing essays, dissertations, reflections and evaluations
- Preparing for presentations or crits
- Listening to lectures
- Researching and reading academic texts
- Note-taking skills
- Improving your pronunciation
- Using academic vocabulary
- Critical thinking
- Organising your workload and managing your time
One-to-one tutorials are a chance for you to discuss your own academic work with one of our EAP lecturers whereas Small Group Tutorials offer the opportunity for you to come along with coursemates to discuss issues while also developing and practising your communication skills.
You can book a 50-minute EAP tutorial online via AUB Bookings. We don't usually accept more than one booking per student, per week, but you can book in advance to help you plan your workload and study time.
If you need help using the online booking system, or would like to discuss booking a 1:1 tutorial, please call Student Advice on 01202 363780 or email them directly at studentadvice@aub.ac.uk. If you're on campus, feel free to drop by Student Services reception and discuss how to book there.
In-sessional course
Our weekly term-time In-sessional Course uses a Community of Practice approach (Wenger et al., 2002) to create a space for students studying in English as an additional language across all levels and subjects at AUB. The aim is to meet and chat about your learning experiences, share useful ideas and strategies, and it's also a great way to practise your speaking skills in a friendly and relaxed environment. Join the course through our Microsoft Teams EAP Team (more details below).
Our Microsoft Teams EAP TEAM is the place to find out what we’re doing, get reminders and access our courses. You'll also find a wide range of academic and language-related study resources. If you've not used Teams before, log in to your Microsoft account with your AUB credentials and click on the Teams icon. Find the 'Join Team' button (usually in the top right-hand corner) and insert the code s2ktq7q to join up.
