Stokewood Leisure Centre in Winton offers a special student membership, which comes highly recommended by current students, so you can enjoy classes and use of the gym and pool for a very reasonable price. Student Carolin Giessner says: ‘I go to yoga classes there and it’s very friendly and not too busy – sometimes just me and my housemate!’

Closer to campus, students at Arts University Bournemouth benefit from discounted membership at the Bournemouth University gym and other facilities, where there is also an indoor climbing wall on site. Students often comment on the convenience of fitting exercise into their day, having so many facilities right on their doorstep. Rosie Thorpe also recommends kickboxing classes run by South Coast Kickboxing in Pokesdown and New Milton.

If playing sport isn’t your thing, but you still like the buzzing atmosphere of an exciting game, there are plenty of spectator opportunities in Bournemouth and Poole. AFC Bournemouth’s home games are played at Dean Court, while Bournemouth Rugby Club can be seen in action at Chapel Gate, East Parley, on most Saturday afternoons.
